Politics of Pot:
Tomorrow [Monday, 19 November] at 3 p.m., the Criminal Justice committee is scheduled to meet again, to diddle around some more with the Board's probably-pointless Cultivation Ordinance.
(Supervisors Delbar and Wattenburger are the drug duo; the full Board's also scheduled for a Special Meeting -- Agenda here -- on Monday. Curious non-commuters with computers -- and the Ukiah valley to which the station broadcasts -- may be able to follow the proceedings on KMEC.)
The story's
now nearly eclipsed by the no-arrest pot bust -- 39 pounds -- of Sherylin Young, the budget and finance officer put in place by deceased former District Attorney Norman Vroman, but Richard Johnson's
Mendocino Country is the only media which reported -- sort of -- on last month's no-arrest bust of Laura Hamburg, daughter of former one-term Congressman Dan Hamburg and his first wife, for an extensive commercial cannibis ("medical marijuana") operation.
Johnson kind-of-coyly mentions "a quantity" of marijuana -- it's said to have been in the neighborhood of 50 pounds:
"The following exclusive news story can be found in Issue Updates on the www.mendocinocountry.com website.
Local journalist Laura Hamburg, daughter of Dan and Carrie Hamburg and former wife of Sid Cooperrider was the subject of a recent raid on her medical marijuana garden. Deputies came to her home in the 1300 block of Boonville Road in the morning of Thursday, October 25 concerning a family member suspected of violating a protective order.
When they observed her grow, they called for and obtained a search warrant, according to Captain Kevin Broin who accompanied patrol officers to the scene. Broin claimed they found quantities of marijuana in various stages of production and processing, as well as cash and other evidence of possession for sales. No arrests were made, and the garden was eradicated with the assistance of the countywide task force.
ADA Nerli was present at the takedown, and defense attorney and former acting DA Keith Faulder was notified by Laura and was available on scene to advise her during the raid. Laura has written for local and Bay Area publications, most recently a story in the Ukiah Daily Journal about a wholistic healer . . . "
