10 July 08 Cal-Fire Briefing:
"Everything is really primed to cook.
The interior islands that you thought were relatively dead, they're coming back to life, and they're burning very aggressively, especially in the afternoon.
Bad news is the conditions for operations up along these ridge lines, especially in the Sugar Loaf area, it's going to be relatively adverse . . . . Aviation operations expect to be severely impacted today . . . . You've got drying of both live and dead fuels: especially in the coastal areas, stuff that was not receptive to burning four days ago is now quite ready to burn, and will burn quite actively when it gets heat."

"Sugar Loaf has become problematic, at best . . . The Cliff, Mallo and Sugar Loaf fires are at 14,000 acres, and we're calling those 70% contained. We do have a large spot fire that's crossed our containment lines on the Sugar Loaf fire."

Inspired prose from the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office
Incident: Accidental ShootingWatch-pocket Watch:
". . . When deputies arrived, they found the 43 year old female lying partially inside and partially outside of a travel trailer. The female had a through and through gunshot wound to her right knee. They also found a 42 year old male adult with a superficial wound to the front of his groin area and a bullet hole in his pants.
"Based on statements and physical evidence gathered at the scene, it was determined that the female was carrying a .44 magnum single action revolver in a holster under her left arm. She stepped into the small travel trailer and had the intent to shoot mice that were apparently scurrying around on the floor of the trailer. When she went to draw the revolver from the holster, the revolver slipped out and fell to the floor. Upon impact with the floor, the revolver fired one shot, which passed through her right knee cap, then continued upward and traveled across the front of the 42 year old males pants, where it struck a set of keys that were hanging from his belt loop. The bullet then glanced off the keys and tore a hole in the males pants, and continued to travel between the pants and a pair of shorts he was wearing. The bullet came to rest when it entered the coin pocket of the males pants, where it was recovered for evidence . . . "
"The general debasement of language in the U.S. political culture ... provides a perfect soundstage for Obama's politics of vapidity, in which no term has reliable, lasting definition."

"We tried to buy a HEPA filter from our local hardware store, and as I am sure many of you know, they are out of stock."
